This release changed the way of thumbnail assignment to make it 100% predictable which thumbnail will be displayed in case of multiple categories being selected for the post. (more…)
The new release of both plugins is out - FPW Category Thumbnails 1.4.1 and FPW Post Instructions 1.2.2. Both releases optimize memory by hooking actions and filters for back end only.
FPW Category Thumbnails version 1.4.0 and FPW Post Instructions version 1.2.1 have been released. Both plugins were recoded using classes to avoid name conflicts with other plugins and take advantage of the latest contextual help API.
New version of FPW Post Instructions had been released today. It features multiple rich text editors ( WordPress 3.3+ ) and has its contextual help modified.
New version 1.3.9 of FPW Category Thumbnails had been released today. It features code enhancements for version 3.3 of WordPress and general code cleanup.
Version 1.3.4 of FPW Category Thumbnails plugin has been released today. It has many improvements over previous version: preview of thumbnails, revamped media-upload thickbox for image id extraction, option to display / hide dashboard widget and recoded bulk actions to reduce memory requirements.
This is a maintenance release of the plugin which fixes problems with quotes being escaped ( eg. 'text' becomes 'text' ) when read from database. This problem was related to post types of 'page', 'link', and custom post types.
The plan for version 1.2.2 is to add contextual help which is missing since initial release.
This plugin is not available anymore!
New features in WordPress 3.0+ as custom post types and post formats introduced some challenges to webmasters of corporate websites with many users holding post publishing / editing privileges. Especially post formats which use the standard post editing screens but may have certain rules imposed by the implementation. Webmasters could try the following options: make a course / training for editors, distribute instructions for editors in a form of printed material, or give editors a link to the documentation. All these methods are good based on one assumption that editors will remember where to find this information. Unfortunately information obtained during the course can be forgotten, printed materials lost or misplaced, and, as everybody knows, people tend to avoid reading documentation.
In attempt to solve this set of problems I have developed FPW Post Instructions plugin. The plugin adds a metabox to post editing screens with special instructions for editors. You can make it as eye-catching as you want ( html in the content is allowed ). It will show on every post editing screen so it cannot be forgotten or misplaced.
Setting featured image for post/page could be very time consuming, especially when your media library holds hundreds of pictures. Very often we select the same thumbnail for posts in particular category. Wouldn't be much easier to have a thumbnail being set automatically when we choose a category while creating or updating posts/pages? I could not find in wordpress.org repository any plugins doing exactly what I wanted and decided to write my own. It started as a plugin just for myself. Exactly 12 lines of code. Then I decided to share it with others. And here it is - FPW Category Thumbnails. Click on a link above this post to see the plugin in WordPress repository.
